CLAYTON, N.C. (AP) - Police in Clayton say a woman is accused of abusing her 3-year-old son, leading to his hospitalization.

The police department said on its Facebook page that 40-year-old Aquilla Yvette Stewart is charged with felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. Stewart is being held in the Johnston County jail on a $150,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.

Town spokesman John Hamlin said Stewart called 911 on Oct. 24, saying her son had fallen the day before and was unconscious. Police said the boy already had an injury that requires immediate medical attention, which Stewart neglected.

Hamlin said the boy was taken to WakeMed Children’s Hospital before he was transferred to Duke Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit to undergo surgeries for brain and skull injuries.
