WASHINGTON (AP) - A Maryland woman says she nearly fainted when she received a collection notice for more than $11,000 regarding a Verizon account she cancelled nine years ago.

Sina Coates tells WRC-TV (https://bit.ly/2fF3nMV ) that neither she nor Verizon customer service employees knew why she received the giant bill when she had cancelled nearly a decade ago.

Coates says she never heard back from the company’s claims department, at which point she reached out to WRC-TV.

The television station says it contacted Verizon, which apologized for the bill and blamed an internal system error.
