HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Hartford lawyer surrendered his law license amid an investigation into an alleged stock fraud scheme involving millions of dollars that stretched from Connecticut to Gibraltar.
The Hartford Courant reports (https://cour.at/2fHzuvf ) that Corey Brinson surrendered his license Thursday after a judge indefinitely suspended it. The suspension resulted from a complaint by an investor who claims $2,500 he gave Brinson to buy stocks disappeared.
The newspaper reports that evidence collected by state regulators and presented in federal court ties Brinson to penny stock manipulators who allegedly used Brinson’s law firm trust account to launder money. The scheme involves manipulators selling nearly worthless stocks to investors at fraudulently inflated prices.
Brinson and his attorney declined comment. Brinson is a former Hartford city councilman and one-time Republican candidate for secretary of the state.
