CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Freedom was brief for an inmate who escaped the Faulkner County jail in Conway.

Sheriff Matt Rice told reporters that 50-year-old William Chamlee escaped from the jail’s recreation yard Friday morning and was recaptured between 30 minutes and an hour later in south Conway after being spotted by a resident who called police.

Rice said details of how Chamlee escaped are still under investigation.

Chamlee is a convicted sex offender who was charged in October with failing to register as a sex officer.
