WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Crews will dredge a small section of the Intracoastal Waterway, where sand has shoaled near the mouth of Mason Creek.
The StarNews of Wilmington reports (https://bit.ly/2fMGEfF) the dredging will begin this winter and should finish before April.
New Hanover County will pick up the tab of more than $520,000 as part of the agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers that allowed the relocation of Mason Inlet in 2002. As part of the inlet relocation, the creek was dredged to help keep Mason Inlet from moving south and threatening property at the northern end of Wrightsville Beach.
One stipulation was that the county was responsible for shoaling in the Intracoastal around the creek mouth.
