SAHUARITA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was fatally shot by Sahuarita police in Southern Arizona after he allegedly tried to run over officers.
Police say 29-year-old Richard Herrera Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of Saturday night’s incident.
Officers responded to a home around 11:15 p.m. regarding a domestic violence incident.
As officers arrived on scene, police say Herrera attempted to run them over with a car.
A vehicle pursuit then ensued and three Sahuarita police officers were involved in a shooting in the city 15 miles south of Tucson.
Sahuarita police have turned over the criminal investigation to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
But police still will be conducting a criminal investigation associated with the original call and an administrative review for the shooting incident.
