CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man injured in an officer-involved shooting that occurred after a traffic stop in Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety identified the man as 37-year-old Jerime Mitchell, of Cedar Rapids.

The car was pulled over around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday near St. Luke’s Hospital. A city news release says the driver began an altercation with the officer, who drew his weapon and fired. The man got back into his vehicle and fled.

Police say he soon ran into an unmarked police sport utility vehicle and then an unoccupied car in a Coe College parking lot, where he was taken into custody before being taken to a hospital.

Police say the officer who fired his gun was not seriously injured.
