Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton canceled a campaign rally Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa, because of the killings of two police officers in an ambush-style attack.

The rally with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine and former President Bill Clinton was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Des Moines and was to feature a performance by singer-songwriter Ben Harper. Mrs. Clinton was not scheduled to appear at the rally.

“Due to the tragic shooting of Des Moines and Urbandale police officers last night, the Des Moines Get Out the Vote event with Tim Kaine, President Bill Clinton, and Ben Harper at the Des Moines Social Club has been canceled,” the campaign said in a statement.

The police officers were gunned down in separate attacks overnight. A search was underway for Scott Michael Greene, whom police identified as a suspect.

Police said Mr. Greene, 46, should be considered armed and dangerous.
