CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Horry County has imposed a ban on outdoor burning in some parts of the county because of the dry conditions.

County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier said in a news release Tuesday afternoon the ban will be in effect until further notice in unincorporated areas near the beach.

She says the order comes because of the low humidity and dry ground conditions. Officials are also concerned about debris caused by Hurricane Matthew, as well as the density of housing in the affected areas.

The ban is in effect on the beach side of state Highway 31 and east of U-S 17 in Little River to the state line. The ban is also in effect for property on the south end east of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to the Georgetown County line.
