GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - A Georgetown man originally charged in connection with the assault of his landlord has been charged in connection with the slaying of a man.

Local news organizations report that police charged 22-year-old Juan Carlos Tovar Cruz on Tuesday with murder in relation to the death of 30-year-old Ricardo Perez-Ramirez. Cruz was first charged in connection with the assault of his landlord.

Delaware State Police say that Cruz tied up his landlord at her home Saturday and cut her. She managed to escape and called officials.

When they responded, they found the body of Perez-Ramirez in the driveway of the home.

Officials found Cruz on Sunday and arrested him on assault charges. On Tuesday, police officially linked Cruz to Perez-Ramirez‘ slaying and charged him with murder.

It’s unclear if Cruz has an attorney.
