PHOENIX (AP) - An event to distribute Thanksgiving meals at a major Phoenix food bank is drawing long lines.
People began lining up early Monday to get donations at the St. Mary’s Food Bank.
Gov. Doug Ducey is scheduled to be at the location later in the day. The governor and members of his staff will pack and hand out the traditional Thanksgiving meals.
The governor is using the event to tout expanded tax credits he signed into law earlier this year designed to boost donations to food banks and other nonprofit organizations helping low-income Arizonans. The law increases dollar-for-dollar tax credits from $200 to $400 a year for individuals and from $400 to $800 a year for couples contributing to the charities. The law also increases credits for donations to foster care charities.
Another law Ducey signed extends the contribution deadline to April 15.
