SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert has signed a bill that aims to fix the state’s fuel tax and a proposal that exempts some recycling facilities from some licensing requirements.
Lawmakers passed both measures during a short special session last week. Herbert’s office announced that he signed the bills Monday.
The fuel tax measure is the second time legislators have tried to fix a complicated formula that’s supposed to give cities and counties a 17.5 increase in road money.
The initial law passed in 2015 ended up giving some counties far less money than expected.
Legislators passed changes earlier this year that were supposed to fix the problem but it instead sent too much money to rural areas.
Officials say city and county associations are on board with the new changes, which even out the distribution.
