LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A 29-year-old Lake Charles man accused in the death of an infant has pleaded not guilty in state district court to charges of negligent homicide and intimidating a witness.

Authorities said Nathaniel Anderson was caring for the infant Sept. 9 while her mother was at work. Lake Charles police said that when the mother returned later that night, the infant was unresponsive and taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1HTL0c3) Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said the child, who had no visible injuries, had suffered internal injuries at Anderson’s hands on the afternoon of Sept. 9.

Judge Thomas Quirk on Monday set Anderson’s pre-trial conference for April 13.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Anderson.
