SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Ian Meyer ran for two touchdowns and threw for another score, helping Monett beat Maryville 27-18 on Saturday in the Missouri 3A championship game for the Cubs’ first state title since 1977.

Michael Branch also had a touchdown run, and David Turner caught a TD pass for Monett (14-1), which trailed 12-7 at halftime and was still behind 18-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Meyer scored from 1 yard out to give the Cubs the lead, then added his TD toss to Turner with just under three minutes to go to put the game away.

Trey Oglesby threw two touchdown passes for Maryville (14-1), which was trying for its third title in the past five years. Eli Dowis had a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
