ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - University of Michigan’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens is hosting a holiday exhibition exploring the role of plants as the source of materials and inspiration for fashion.

The exhibition, “Avant Garden - Weaving Fashion and Nature Together,” debuted this weekend and runs through Jan. 8 at the Ann Arbor school. It features a collection of six outfits created from plant materials, including ferns and tree bark.

Avant Garden was conceived and developed by Allison Correll, Matthaei’s events coordinator. Correll says she and her colleagues challenged themselves to create outfits from only plant materials.

Admission is free and open to the public.
