PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say three people were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver’s pickup collided head-on with a small SUV on Interstate 17 overnight.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says impairment by drugs or alcohol is suspected in the wreck that closed northbound I-17 at Anthem north of Phoenix for over three hours late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

The DPS says the pickup was southbound in the northbound lanes when the wreck occurred at about 11 p.m.

According to DPS, two people in the SUV had serious but not life-threatening injuries while the man driving the pickup had minor injuries.
