SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 34-year-old Salt Lake City man is being held on $1 million bail after his arrest in a fatal shooting over the weekend.

Leroy Daniel Valdez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Kenonren Goodman.

Police say Valdez allegedly broke into his own apartment with a handgun Saturday morning after he’d been locked out by unwanted guests he was trying to force to leave.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune (https://tinyurl.com/zh3nhyo), detectives believe the gun went off during a struggle. They say Valdez fled the scene on foot but later turned himself in to police.

He allegedly told police that Goodman was larger than him and he was trying to push him away when the gun discharged.
