BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - A Barnstable man has been sentenced to up to five years behind bars after pleading guilty to shooting into a house with a couple and their two young children inside.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2gS3xS0 ) that 21-year-old Flavio Gambarotto-Santa was also sentenced Monday to three years of probation.

Under a plea deal just before his trial was scheduled to start, he pleaded guilty to attempting to commit a crime, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime.

Authorities say a woman in November 2014 told her husband that Gambarotto-Santa had made an offensive statement to her. They say the husband and Gambarotto-Santa later argued.

Authorities say the husband saw Gambarotto-Santa standing outside his Yarmouth immediately following the shooting.
