BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A New York City man has pleaded guilty in a fake prize scam that targeted elderly people.
Federal prosecutors in Buffalo say 25-year-old Corey Buddle of Brooklyn pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
Authorities say Buddle and co-conspirators from Jamaica led victims to believe they’d won cash or cars but told them they’d have to pay fees to collect the prizes. An elderly Rochester man paid $130,000 in 2011, while a woman in Missouri paid more than $190,000.
Buddle faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced March 17.
