LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) - A member of the Lancaster County school board and a female companion are facing charges of trafficking methamphetamine.
Sheriff Barry Faile told local media that 50-year-old James Brooks of Van Wyck and 37-year-old Carol Broom of Fort Mill were arrested early Saturday.
Brooks was elected to the school board in 2014.
Deputies said they stopped the couple’s car after seeing it swerve on the road. After seeing an open beer bottle and metal tray with white powder, deputies searched the vehicle and found 24 grams of methamphetamine, nearly 4 grams of a substance suspected to be marijuana, a loaded shotgun and other drug-related items.
Brooks and Broom are charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. It wasn’t immediately clear if either had an attorney.
