CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of a man who was sentenced to death for killing his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son in 1996.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2gFAcap ) that the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued an opinion ruling that Thomas Collman’s claims of ineffective counsel and prosecutorial misconduct were without merit.

Collman was convicted of killing the 1-year-old in Ely in January 1996. Collman said the boy died when he fell down a set of basement stairs.

Prosecutors argued that the child’s body had bite marks and bruises that appeared to have been inflicted over a period of time.
