ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The Biltmore House in Asheville now has a 35-foot fir tree in its banquet hall for Christmas.

Staff members pushed and pulled the giant tree into the entrance of the banquet hall Wednesday.

Hundreds of guests outside the banquet hall cheered when the tree made it through.

Biltmore’s vice president of operations Pete Conard has been supervising the tree movement for 29 years. He says years ago, very few people were around to watch workers stuff the tree into the room. He says there are now thousands of people who come to watch.

Conard says it takes more than 50 people to handle the tree raising operation. That includes workers with brooms and a vacuum to clean up the needles before guests are allowed into the hall.
