STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. (AP) - Police say a county jail inmate in New Hampshire has walked away from the facility and is missing.

Police say Brendan Bernier was last seen near the recycling center in Stewartstown at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. He had been at the Coos County Jail in town.

State troopers, U.S. Border Patrol and local police are checking the immediate area.

Police say Bernier has ties to the Berlin, Gorham and Bethlehem areas in New Hampshire and may have contacts in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Bernier had been serving a sentence related to driving a motor vehicle after being deemed an habitual offender. He has burn scars on his forehead and left side of his face.
