YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Yuma police say a man is dead after being shot by a passer-by who intervened during what is described as a domestic violence incident.

Police say their initial investigation indicates 24-year-old Anthony Ramirez was fatally shot by a 21-year-old man who had a gun when he intervened in a domestic disturbance between Ramirez and Ramirez’s girlfriend.

The incident occurred Wednesday night in the parking lot of the apartment complex where Ramirez and his girlfriend lived.

Sgt. Lori Franklin didn’t have specifics of what was going on between the couple but she says the shooting occurred when the passer-by tried to separate the couple and then got into a struggle with Ramirez.

Franklin says no charges have been filed but that the case remains under investigation.
