WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The American Red Cross is operating from a movie studio in Wilmington as it helps southeastern North Carolina recover from Hurricane Matthew.

The StarNews of Wilmington reported (https://bit.ly/2f2hp88) the Red Cross began mobilizing at EUE/Screen Gems Studios two days before Matthew arrived.

The Cape Fear district headquarters is offering help to 13 counties from the studio’s commissary facilities.

Red Cross Executive Director Vicki LaBelle says some communities will be in recovery mode for weeks and months.

LaBelle says the studio’s ample space and proximity to the airport make it the ideal base of operations.

She says the Red Cross expects to keep its center open through November.

Workers are coordinating shelter and feeding operations, as well as health services and supplying vehicles for deliveries.
