LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming has adopted new standards for those eligible to receive honorary doctoral degrees.

The Laramie Boomerang reports (https://bit.ly/2ffybnf ) that nominees must have outstanding contributions to the lives of people in Wyoming and accomplishments so exemplary that they have won recognition on a regional and national level. The new standards also make UW employees and public office holders ineligible for nominations.

Board of Trustees Chair Mike Massie says the new standards are intended to discourage nominees that committee members should know won’t be awarded honorary degrees.

The Honorary Degree Committee nominates potential degree recipients and the Board of Trustees has final say. The deadline for submitting nominations was Tuesday.
