So much for the honeymoon.
Showtime’s “Masters of Sex,” a drama about the professional and romantic partnership of human sexuality researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson, will not be renewed, ending its run with what The Hollywood Reporter said was a “satisfying conclusion,” the wedding of the main characters.
“Once a prestige drama, Masters of Sex has never been a breakout ratings performer for the premium cable network,” THR said Wednesday. “Season four averaged less than 800,000 total viewers — counting three days of delayed returns.”
But it’s not lackluster ratings behind rolling over and calling it a night, producers insist.
According to THR, “Sources say Showtime, producers and the cast decided that they have told a complete story and opted to not move forward with a fifth season.”
