FLORIDA SUPREME COURT WON’T INVALIDATE SOLAR BALLOT QUESTION
The court made its decision Friday, four days before the election and after 5.2 million votes had already been cast by mail and at early voting sites. The challenge came after a leading proponent of Amendment 1 was recorded saying that the measure was written to appear pro-solar, even though it could end up restricting solar growth in Florida by raising costs.
OFFICIALS: VIOLENT PASSENGER CAUSES FLIGHT TO BE DIVERTED
A U.S. attorney’s office news release says 34-year-old Oliver Charles Halliday Gee, a British national who lives in Mexico, was arrested after an emergency landing Wednesday at Jacksonville International Airport. He was charged with assault or intimidation of a flight crew and faces up to 20 years in prison.
HUSBAND CHARGED WITH SHOOTING MAN AFTER WIFE MAKES UP AFFAIR
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a Bradenton home and found Dequan Randolph dead. Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as Derrick Frazier. Frazier initially told detectives he was never at the scene. Authorities say he changed his story several times, eventually claiming that Randolph had pulled the gun, and a struggle ensued.
FAA GIVES DISNEY PERMISSION TO FLY DRONES AT THEME PARKS
The Federal Aviation Administration earlier this week issued a waiver to Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, allowing the drones to be flown in Florida and California. The waiver is good for four years but it can be cancelled at any time. The waiver requires that drone operators at Disney must have remote pilot certificates and allows the aircraft to be flown at night.
FLORIDA TEEN ACCUSED OF KILLING GRANDMA IN FIGHT OVER BEER
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Dylan Brougham was initially charged with aggravated battery, but a murder charge was added Thursday after 69-year-old Joyce Ann Courson died. The argument started Oct. 10 after Courson hid her grandson’s beer while he was showering. A witness told investigators he heard the woman screaming and found her body on the floor as Broughman left the house.
