DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A jury has convicted a Davenport man of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a neighbor.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/2fkQULE ) the Scott County jury deliberated more than three hours Friday before finding Robert E. Carter guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree burglary in the death of Claude S. Hanson.

The 55-year-old Carter lived in an apartment two doors away from the 62-year-old Hanson.

Prosecutors say that in July 2015, Carter sneaked into Hanson’s apartment, where he stabbed him and stole cash from his wallet.

Hanson died six days later.

Prosecutors relied on DNA evidence in making their case.

Defense lawyers disputed the DNA evidence. They noted there were no witnesses and Carter’s fingerprints weren’t found at the scene.

Carter faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
