SHOSHONE, Idaho (AP) - A Jerome man accused of shooting a victim and leaving him for dead in the Idaho desert has pleaded guilty.
The Times-News reports (https://bit.ly/2ev8DkL ) that 25-year-old David Ceballos pleaded guilty to attempted murder in Lincoln County District Court on Wednesday in connection to the shooting of Francisco Javier Bravo-Martinez.
Ceballos told investigators that Martizabell Murillo asked him to “take care of” her boyfriend, Bravo-Martinex because he was abusive and she was done with the relationship., police said. Murillo had told police she was kidnapped and threatened by two men the same day Bravo-Martinez was shot.
Charges against Murillo were ultimately dismissed.
Prosecutors say three men kidnapped Bravo-Martinez on Jan. 23 over a $3,000 debt before shooting him and leaving him to die. Bravo-Martinez, 29, survived and called police hours later.
A second defendant in the case, Antonio Gallegos, is scheduled to go on trial Feb. 1. Another man, Erik Lopez, 24, of Wendell, was accused of felony counts of robbery, kidnapping and intimidating a witness, but he turned state witness and testified against his co-defendants.
Ceballos is scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 3. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a fixed minimum sentence of 25 years or less.
