MONROE, N.C. (AP) - A man who had previously been deported had been arrested on sex charges in Union County.

The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/2eZDHtk) that the sheriff’s office said 36-year-old Felipe Carrera Santiago was charged Thursday with second-degree sex offense and attempted second-degree sex offense.

The sheriff’s office said Santiago is in the country illegally after being deported in 2010. It was not clear if he has an attorney.



The sheriff’s office said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed an detainer against Santiago. He will remain in custody pending disposition of the Union County charges.
