McALLEN, Texas (AP) - A U.S. Border Patrol agent in South Texas is being accused by prosecutors of working with drug traffickers to stage narcotics seizures and redistribute the real cocaine for profit.
The Monitor in McAllen reports (https://bit.ly/2fOe3sP ) 48-year-old Eduardo Bazan Jr. was arrested Thursday.
Investigators allege Bazan lied about a 2007 seizure near McAllen in which agents found 66 kilograms of cocaine.
Authorities allege Bazan was paid $8,000 to help with the staged drug seizure.
Bazan is the son of Eduardo “Walo” Bazan Sr., who became the first convicted felon in Texas voted into a law enforcement office when he was re-elected as precinct 5 constable in 2008. He was convicted of theft for stealing a truck in 2004.
An attorney for Bazan Jr. could not be reached for comment on Saturday.
