NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Police in Norfolk are investigating a fatal shooting that they say happened during an attempted robbery.

Police said in a statement that they were called shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man shot in the 7800 block of Ogden Avenue. Police say when they arrived they found a man suffering from a single gunshot. Police say he was taken to the hospital but later died of his injuries.

Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Michael A. Raether, who was living on a Norfolk-based Naval ship.



Police say Raether was the victim of an attempted robbery and that during the robbery the suspect shot him and ran from the scene. Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
