HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford police are investigating after a 10-year-old girl was shot in the face on a city street.

Police say the shooting occurred at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday on Branford Street, in what was described as a quiet and safe neighborhood.

Officers responding to 11 shots detected by the city’s gunfire detection system learned that the girl’s father had brought her to the hospital.

Police found five 9 mm casings in the street and saw gunfire damage to a home. A witness told police the gunfire appeared to have come from a black vehicle, which fled the scene.

The girl was transferred to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Police say she is stable.

There was no word on arrests.
