EDISON, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a police officer and a former officer plotted to set fire to the home of a superior officer.

Edison officer Christian Pedana and Michael Dotro are charged with official misconduct and conspiring to commit aggravated arson. Authorities say the fire was never set.

Dotro had served on the Edison force for nine years before resigning in September. That came after he pleaded guilty to scheming with other Edison officers to retaliate against an officer from another department who had arrested one of their relatives for drunken driving.

The charges announced Monday by Middlesex County prosecutors are in addition to another matter where Dotro allegedly set fire to the home of a different superior officer in May 2013.

Pedana has been an Edison police officer for 16 years.

It’s not known if either man has retained an attorney.
