RANDOLPH, Miss. (AP) - Authorities in Pontotoc County say a Randolph man and his 4-year-old son apparently drowned while fishing from a small boat in a friend’s pond along Highway 9 South in Randolph.

County Coroner Kim Bedford identified the victims as 37-year-old Billy Joe Finley, and his son, Grayson.

Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/2f9Z3V0) the pond owner alerted authorities around 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Mask says the land owner became alarmed when he didn’t see them out in the boat and the man’s four-wheeler was still there.

Pontotoc Fire Chief Lance Martin says the father’s body was recovered around 5:20 p.m. and the little boy was found at 5:52 p.m.
