Welfare check leads to homicide probe in Rainbow City

RAINBOW CITY, Ala. (AP) - Rainbow City police are seeking an 18-year-old man as a person of interest in the slaying of a 50-year-old resident.

Rainbow City Police Chief Jonathon Horton tells The Birmingham News (https://bit.ly/2f9i8H7) Tony McCartney’s body was found in the bedroom of his home around noon Sunday.

Police had been called to the residence on a welfare check after McCartney’s son reported he could not reach his father.

Horton said McCartney was killed by a gunshot wound to the head.
