CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a man fatally shot by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was pointing a gun at the trooper.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (https://on.rgj.com/2eSABVa ) that Trooper Chris Johnson shot and killed Henry Simpson at an apartment building in Carson City last week.

NHP chief Dennis Osborn says troopers and Carson City Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a call about shots fired on the morning of Nov. 1. The caller told police the man was holding a shotgun, although investigators later found Simpson was armed with a revolver.

Investigators believe Simpson fired his gun at least twice, once at a bathroom floor and once at a window.

Osborn says Simpson pointed the revolver in a “shooter position” as Johnson approached him and ignored commands to drop the gun.
