BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A New York man has been sentenced in Vermont to 12 years in prison on drug and sex trafficking charges.

Federal prosecutors say 32-year-old Diheim Young, of Brooklyn, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and crack cocaine in Rutland, Vermont, and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking women between Vermont and New York. Young also pleaded guilty to sex trafficking five women, including four from Vermont, between 2012 and 2015.

Prosecutors say Young worked with a number of women who helped him sell and transport drugs. The U.S. attorney’s office says when the women became addicted and dependent upon Young, he forced some to prostitute themselves. Prosecutors said if they refused, he would withhold drugs or hit or threaten to hit them.
