TORTUGAS, N.M. (AP) - A Tortugas man who was reportedly seen swinging an ax that prompted a four-hour standoff with Dona Ana County authorities has been arrested.

County sheriff’s officials say the name of the 28-year-old man isn’t being released yet and no charges are being filed at this time.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A neighbor of the suspect called 911 and said the man was swinging an ax toward the ground and acting erratically.

Deputies say the man refused to exit the home.

SWAT team crisis negotiators were brought in and made repeated attempts to communicate with him.

The man eventually surrendered to deputies and was taken to a medical facility for an evaluation.
