MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) - Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have arrived in the tiny island nation of Bahrain and met its crown prince and king.

The royal couple was met by Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and a military honor guard when they landed at Sakhir Air Base on Tuesday.

After speaking to the crown prince, Prince Charles and Camilla were taken by motorcade to meet Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at a nearby palace.

Prince Charles and Camilla already have visited Oman and the United Arab Emirates on their three-nation tour of the Gulf.

Ahead of their visit to Bahrain, however, activists criticized the nation’s rulers for a recent crackdown on dissent at a level unseen since the 2011 Arab Spring.
