WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts university has settled a lawsuit brought by a former student who was raped while studying in Puerto Rico.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a statement Monday said a “fair resolution” in the case has been reached and terms are confidential.
The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/2fWRulJ ) reports that a lawyer for the woman declined to comment.
The woman sued the university in April after she was raped by a security guard at a college-leased condominium in 2012. She alleged the university failed to provide a safe environment. The guard was convicted of rape.
WPI was criticized when court papers appeared to partially blame the victim. The university later said it would never blame a victim and said an insurance carrier prepared the filing that was not vetted by school lawyers.
