LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say 17 arrests have been made during an anti-gang sweep at several homes in a Los Angeles neighborhood.

Police Lt. Chris Ramirez told reporters Wednesday that one local street gang had a stronghold in the Wilmington area near Los Angeles harbor.

Officers with the multi-agency investigation, dubbed Operation Tidal Wave, served federal racketeering warrants in the early morning hours. At least 10 guns were seized.

Among the crimes allegedly committed by suspects named in the warrants are drug offenses, assaults on police officers, and at least one murder.

Ramirez says the arrests will reduce street violence in the area.
