SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a crash involving a van and a tractor-trailer on a New Jersey highway has left the van driver dead and a teenage passenger critically injured.

But the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

South Brunswick police say 29-year-old John Jermill Williams, of Hampton, Georgia, was driving the van across Route 1 when the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Williams died a short time later at a hospital.

His passenger, a 17-year-old Philadelphia boy, was ejected from the van. He remained hospitalized Wednesday in critical condition.

The tractor-trailer driver, 45-year-old Nohemi Farfan, of Baytown, Texas, was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries and was later released, police said. She was driving northbound on Route 1 when the crash occurred.
