LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Lowell father has been charged with violently shaking and seriously injuring his 3-month-old daughter because she wouldn’t stop crying.

Anthony Mansolilli pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault and battery on a child causing substantial injury.

Prosecutors say police responded to a 911 call from Mansolilli’s apartment on Nov. 6. Authorities say the child was found unresponsive and taken to a Boston hospital where a CT scan revealed she was suffering from bleeding on the brain and other head injuries. Officials say the child survived but remains hospitalized.

Police say the 30-year-old Mansolilli told officers that he “lost control” and shook the girl when her cries got louder.

Mansolilli’s attorney tells The Sun that his client is a young parent who didn’t know how to react.
