SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A retired Sacramento police K-9 credited with saving an officer’s life during a pursuit has died.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2fCK1G1) that 8-year-old “Bodie” died Tuesday after a bacterial infection that led veterinarians to discover a tumor on the left side of his face.

Bodie was shot during a foot chase in 2012. The suspect was being pursued by an officer and later died in an exchange of gunfire. The bullet shattered the dog’s jawbone and two toes, and he nearly bled to death.
