ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - Police say an arrest warrant has been issued for a Roswell man wanted in the fatal shooting of his uncle.

They say the warrant was issued Wednesday for 35-year-old Cody Hairston in the shooting of 56-year-old Ernest Ray Allen, who was found dead on his front steps.

Police say the warrant accuses Hairston of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers responded to a shooting around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, they found Allen wounded and unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say Hairston and Allen were seen arguing and pushing each other while at a family member’s residence.

Before the argument, family members say Allen was trying to console Hairston about the recent death of Hairston’s mother.
