JACKSON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for stealing nearly $520,000 from nine victims.

The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/2eT2UTo ) reports that 55-year-old Keith Lars Monia, of Cape Girardeau, apologized when he was sentenced Tuesday for financial exploitation of the elderly and stealing by deceit. He said he had “very poor judgment” and offered to give $25,000 of inheritance to his victims.

Authorities say the nine victims entrusted Monia to invest amounts ranging from $10,000 to $120,000. Instead, some of the money ended up in Monia’s personal bank account. Court records say money also was also given to another man, who was supposed to invest the money but is accused of stealing it.

The thefts occurred in Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties from 2007 through 2013.
