AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s annual fall turkey hunt is beginning on one of the busiest days of the year on the Maine hunting calendar.

The turkey hunt begins on Saturday and lasts until Nov. 7. Most hunters are limited to either one or two turkeys depending on what part of the state they hunt in. The hunt is closed in parts of far norther Maine.

Saturday is also the first day of the year for several bird and small game hunting seasons. They include ruffed grouse, bobwhite quail, pheasant, snowshoe hare, raccoon and gray squirrel.

Saturday is also the last day of the first stretch of the state’s moose hunt. The hunt resumes on Oct. 10.
