PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) - An 11-month-old girl has been hospitalized after she was accidentally shot inside a Petaluma home.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2d2JZsE ) that Lt. Tara Salizzoni of the Petaluma Police Department says it isn’t immediately clear how the firearm went off, but investigators believe it was an accident and don’t intend to make any arrests.

Police and paramedics were called to the Petaluma home Saturday after the child suffered the gunshot wound. The infant was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and then flown to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.

Police say the child is expected to survive her injuries.
